Turkish media insists the end of the alliance is near

Donald Trump's expected visit to Ankara is causing strong reactions, after the US president has expressed his intention to withdraw the United States from NATO. The Turkish newspaper Sozcu characteristically writes that Trump is coming to "dissolve NATO", emphasizing the seriousness of these statements.

Hurriyet newspaper emphasizes that the NATO summit, which will take place in Ankara on July 7 and 8, constitutes a "fatal meeting" for the future of the alliance. According to reports, the outcome of this summit will determine the future direction of NATO, at a time of tension and doubt.

The Turkish government condemned the latest US and Israeli attack on Iran, calling it illegal. At the same time, it also referred to the dispatch of F-16 fighter jets to Cyprus, which aim to protect the entire island. Justice and Development Party spokesman Omer Çelik stressed that the F-16s are there to ensure the security of the “TRNC” (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) and all the inhabitants of the island, with Turkey remaining the guarantor power in the region.

According to Çelik, several European countries from the Netherlands to France have strengthened their support for the Greek Cypriot side, citing the need for security following recent tensions in the region. However, he highlighted the controversial alliance between the Greek Cypriot side and Israel prior to the recent developments, stressing that “the TRNC cannot remain alone” in the face of these movements.

Within Turkey, news of Greek air defense systems, which are intended to protect the country from possible missile attacks, has caused significant discontent.

Hurriyet speaks of a "propaganda operation" by Athens, emphasizing that Greece continues to arm itself and consider Turkey a threat.

Trump's visit and the NATO summit in Ankara take place in an extremely sensitive geopolitical environment, where relations between the countries involved are being tested on many levels. The outcome of these developments is expected to significantly affect the balance in the Eastern Mediterranean and the future of the Euro-Atlantic alliance.
