U.S. Central Command has confirmed that a seventh American service member died in the Iran strike today. The command explained that the American died from wounds sustained in a March 1 attack on American troops in Saudi Arabia.
“Last night, a U.S. soldier died from wounds sustained during the Iranian regime’s initial attacks across the Middle East. The soldier was critically injured at the site of an attack on U.S. troops in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on March 1, ” U.S. Central Command said in a statement.
The service member's name will be kept confidential until 24 hours after his next of kin is notified, as is customary.
The news of the fallen service member comes a day after the dignified transfer of six soldiers who were killed in action last week in Kuwait. President Donald Trump and other senior officials joined the families of those troops as their loved ones were brought home to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
The president has previously said there are likely to be more American casualties in the Iran war. Asked Saturday if he thought he should participate in more dignified transfers, Trump said: "I'm sure. I hate it... but it's part of the war."
