Ali Khamenei's son elected Supreme Leader of Iran!

"Khamenei's name will live on," said Ayatollah Hosseinali Eshkevari, a member of the Assembly of Experts...

Iran announced today that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been chosen as his successor as Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.

"Khamenei's name will continue ," said Ayatollah Hosseinali Eshkevari, a member of the Assembly of Experts (the council of clerics responsible for choosing the new leader), in a video broadcast by Iranian state media.

"The vote has been cast and will be announced soon ," Eshkevari added, without providing further details on the procedure or the exact date of the official announcement.

According to other Iranian sources, the secretary of the Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Hosseini Bushehri, is expected to make the official announcement of the successor. Another cleric, Ahmad Alamolhoda, confirmed to state media that the choice has been made and that Bushehri will communicate the decision to the public.

This decision follows the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28, 2026, on the first day of joint Israeli-American air strikes against Iranian targets. His death was confirmed by Iranian authorities and was followed by a 40-day period of national mourning.

Israel has continued its military operations, targeting senior Iranian officials. Yesterday, Saturday, Abolqasem Babayan, the newly appointed head of the Supreme Leader's military office, was killed. The Israeli military has warned that it will continue to pursue any successor to Khamenei, calling the election of a new figure a "continuous threat."

The election of Mojtaba Khamenei (56), who has operated in the shadows for years as a key figure in his father's office and with strong ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), is seen as a sign of the regime's continued hardline stance, but has sparked internal debate over the "hereditary" nature of the decision, which runs counter to the previous tradition of non-family elections. An official announcement is expected within the next few days.

Who is Mojtaba Khamenei?

He was born on September 8, 1969 in Mashhad, Iran, the second and most prominent son of Ali Khamenei and Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh. He was raised in a clerical family during the turbulent period before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, when his father was an activist against the Shah. After graduating from high school at the elite Alavi School in Tehran, Mojtaba joined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and served in the Iran–Iraq War (1987–1988), in units such as the Habib ibn Mazahir Battalion.

He studied theology in the seminaries of Qom under prominent conservative scholars, but did not reach the rank of ayatollah. Despite this, he has been a key figure behind the scenes since the 1990s. Since 1997, he has served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Political and Security Affairs in the Office of the Supreme Leader, acting as a powerful "gatekeeper" and intermediary around his father.

He has close ties to the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), has played a role in suppressing protests, supporting figures like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and controlling the regime's security and economic networks.

.Mojtaba has always been a mysterious figure, rarely seen in public but with great influence in decision-making. He is seen as representing the regime's hardline wing, with strong military ties and anti-reformists. He is married, his wife Zahra Haddad-Adel died in the 2026 attacks, and he has three children./ Pamphlet
