Israeli forces killed at least 83 people across Gaza on Tuesday, including 58 aid seekers, while Gaza's Health Ministry said hospitals recorded eight more starvation-related deaths, Al Jazeera reports .
According to Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal, 30 people were killed by gunfire near an aid center near the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis.
The Israeli military said it fired "warning shots" at a "group advancing towards them" in the Morag Corridor, but reported no casualties. Twenty other people were killed and nearly 100 wounded by Israeli gunfire in Zikim, in the northern Gaza Strip, through which some of the IDF-authorized aid enters, media reported.
The military said it was verifying details of the incident. Six people were killed and 21 wounded in gunfire in central Gaza City, two of them while waiting for food, according to a Civil Defense spokesman. The military, for its part, assured that it did not open fire in Gaza City today.
UN: Catastrophic consequences if Israel invades Gaza
An expansion of the war in the Gaza Strip "risks catastrophic consequences for millions of Palestinians and could further endanger the lives of the hostages remaining in Gaza," said Miroslav Jenca, the United Nations assistant secretary-general for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas.
The statement was made at a Security Council meeting, as fears grow that Israel will give the green light to an operation for the total occupation of the Strip.
