Italian cinema icon Sophia Loren never let criticism of her appearance dictate her choices. Even when the suggestion to have plastic surgery came from her producer Carlo Ponti, who later became the actress' husband, Loren's response was clear and firm.

In a 1979 interview, Sophia revealed that early in her career, many people suggested she reduce her nose, believing that this would open more doors for her in the film industry.

"When my husband told me that maybe I should trim my nose a little, I said, 'I don't think so. I want to keep my nose because I like the way I look. I think you should change the camera operator. If you change him, maybe I'll have more opportunities in movies. Otherwise, I would either have to completely change myself, or I wouldn't be in movies at all because I like the way I look. I have no complexes about my nose,'" the actress recalled.

She ended the story with a sentence that became a symbol of her self-confidence: " And I didn't. Here I am today, still with my nose."

Sophia Loren reiterated the same stance in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2014, where she spoke about the comments she had received over the years regarding her appearance.

"I've always tried not to listen to people. They told me I had a very long nose and a very big mouth. But that didn't affect me at all. When I believe in something, for me it's like a fight. It's a battle ," she said.

The actress revealed that Carlo Ponti was also influenced by the opinions of others.

"Carlo also once said to me: 'The camera operators say your nose is too long. Maybe you should have a little surgery.' I replied: 'Listen, I don't want to change anything about my face, because I love my face. If I have to change my nose, then I'll go back to Pozzuoli,'" Sophia Loren confessed.

Her story remains a rare example of self-confidence and self-acceptance in an industry where beauty standards have always exerted great pressure on artists.
