US President Donald Trump mentioned to President Zelensky about possible Ukrainian attacks on Moscow before approving US arms deliveries, prompting a major backlash. But according to the White House, things were misunderstood as Trump was not encouraging further killings.
"Volodymyr, can you hit Moscow? Can you hit St. Petersburg too? " Trump asked, according to the Financial Times, which cited sources familiar with the call.
"Absolutely. We can if you give us the weapons," Zelensky replied.
Meanwhile, Trump said on Tuesday that Ukraine should not attack Moscow. He stressed that he is not taking sides in this conflict.
"I'm on the side of humanity. I want the killing to stop ," Trump said when asked if he was on anyone's side in the war.
