The Salvini-Tajani 'war' worries Meloni, what is happening in the

The growing tensions between Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani worries Giorgia Meloni.

The internal "war" within the majority is entering a new phase. For some time now, Forza Italia and the League have been debating not only remotely, but also in the Parliament hall.

This time the clash concerns the foreign policy and activism of the League's secretary.

Salvini's behavior is said to have angered the prime minister, and some are not ruling out the possibility of a summit between the leaders being held in the coming days to ease tensions.

According to Claudio Durigon, undersecretary of Labor and one of the League's deputy secretaries, Tajani is in trouble.

"The Foreign Minister is in a somewhat difficult position, given that he is a supporter of Ursula and her rearmament plan. We all know that von der Leyen does not have great relations with the US administration, her plan to arm the EU seems like a challenge to the US," says Durigon.

For Repubblica, Durigon says that being in government is a team game. "The League's, Salvini's, relations with Washington could be beneficial for Italy," he adds.

The Northern League's attack did not sit well with the blue party, so much so that Tajani himself intervened to respond. "Everyone needs help, me too. But I don't feel any difficulties, the voters will judge that," said the minister, explaining that Forza Italia has no intention of creating problems for the government because "we are reliable and above all responsible."

Durigon's statements came after weeks of tensions between the center-right parties. Different positions on sensitive issues such as the war in Ukraine and rearmament weigh heavily.

The Minister of Transportation and Secretary of the League has often "played the role of Tajani": he recently had a telephone conversation with the Vice President of the United States, JD Vance.

Durigon himself stressed that Salvini "has every right to speak with JD Vance. In fact, it is an additional weapon for the government if Matteo speaks with the US administration."

An activism in foreign policy that is not appreciated at Palazzo Chigi. Meloni is in fact increasingly annoyed by her deputies and has also had a phone call with Tajani in recent hours. Many in the coalition hope to avoid a confrontation between the leaders in an attempt to reduce tensions.

The picture is complicated by what is happening in Montecitorio: deputy Davide Bellomo has left the Lega parliamentary group to join Forza Italia.

A criminal lawyer and former regional councilor in Puglia, Bellomo was elected in the 2022 elections in the Bari constituency. “With his arrival, the blue group in the Chamber of Deputies is growing, where Forza Italia is now represented by 50 deputies,” commented the blue secretary, Antonio Tajani.
