Greek government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis stated that recent developments in Turkey are creating significant challenges for the organization of the bilateral High Level Cooperation Council between Greece and Turkey.
His remarks implied that a meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is unlikely to take place anytime soon.
He was answering a question at a press conference about the likelihood of a meeting between the two leaders against the backdrop of the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.
The meeting between Mitsotakis and Erdogan, originally scheduled for April 8, had not been finalized, as discussions between Athens and Ankara were still in their final stages before Turkey's political crisis emerged.
"Given these developments, the organization of the High Cooperation Council between Greece and Turkey has immediately become difficult," he said.
He said the issue could be discussed by the foreign ministers of both countries at the NATO foreign ministers' summit in Brussels in early April.
