The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukaneshko, has made a frightening statement. He said they are actively preparing for war.
"Don't believe anyone we want to fight. We are preparing for war and I am talking about this honestly. If you want peace, prepare for war," Lukashenko told the media.
Lukaneshko revealed that Belarus is equipping its armed forces with weapons and equipment, in addition to training military groups. He threatened that if any country criticizes him, he should know that he is not doing the right thing.
"If someone complains from there [from unfriendly countries] and criticizes us, know that we are doing the right thing. If they start praising us there, it's a disaster ," he said.
In February 2023, Lukashenko had personally stated that the government of Belarus is prepared to offer its land for a possible Russian military incursion into Ukraine and that he is prepared to go to war if Ukraine attacks Belarus.
In addition, he revealed plans to restore nuclear-tipped missile launch platforms and that Belarus could acquire strategic nuclear weapons should they be needed. Russia has deployed relatively short-range, modest-yield tactical nuclear weapons intended for use on the battlefield.
The number of weapons stationed in Belarus is unknown, and it is not immediately clear whether the use of Russian weapons will be part of the new Minsk doctrine.
