A video of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro performing an energetic dance has gone viral on social media.
Maduro is seen dancing and shaking his fists as he urged supporters to embrace a message of peace, even as the United States is increasing military and political pressure on his government.
The performance followed a similar theatrical moment last week, when Maduro appeared before a large crowd singing John Lennon's "Imagine," holding up peace signs as he presented himself as a champion of calm and unity. Together, the performances highlight his talent for spectacle while sending a clear signal of defiance to Washington.
The rallies come amid a sharp escalation in U.S.-Venezuela tensions. Since late August, the U.S. has deployed warships, fighter jets and thousands of personnel to the Caribbean, citing counternarcotics targets. Venezuelan officials reject the claim, labeling the operations aggressive and illegal and accusing Washington of trying to destabilize Maduro's government.
Over the weekend, Maduro's dance took center stage at a rally in Caracas to mark Students' Day, as he energetically moved to an electronic song built around his voice.
The song repeated his lines in English: "No war, no crazy war, no, no, no. Peace, peace, yes peace." Addressing the students, he urged them to connect with their peers in the U.S. and spread his anti-war message. Maduro presented the performance as a demonstration of national strength and unity, signaling Venezuela's refusal to surrender to external threats.
Supporters waved flags and raised their hands in response, as state media broadcast the footage widely. Videos of the dance have also circulated on social media platforms.
