A delegation from Israel's Mossad intelligence agency arrived in Doha on Saturday for talks with Qatari mediators on a new ceasefire in Gaza. Talks focus on the possible release of other Israeli hostages.
Fighting between Israel and Hamas resumed on Friday after a seven-day ceasefire. Israel said Hamas violated the terms of the agreement by firing rockets into its territory. According to DPA, a senior official of the Islamic organization, Khalil al-Hayya, in an interview with Al Jazeera, accused Israel of rejecting several "initiatives and proposals" to extend the ceasefire.
The Times of Israel newspaper reported "extensive ground fighting" in the early hours of today around Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Palestinian enclave, as reported by the German news agency (DPA). The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said several key Hamas members were in the area.
On the northern border of Israel, the exchange of fire started again between the Israeli army and the Lebanese organization Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas. Hezbollah announced the death of two of its members due to Israeli bombing in southern Lebanon, where a civilian was also killed.
At the same time, the first humanitarian aid trucks since the collapse of the Gaza ceasefire entered through the Egyptian side from the Rafah crossing on their way to the Aujja crossing for inspection before continuing on their way to the Gaza Strip.
