King Charles of the United Kingdom delivered a speech to members of the Italian parliament today as part of his official visit to Italy.
"Unfortunately, the echoes of those times that we considered to belong definitively to History have begun to be heard again on our continents today. Peace can never be taken for granted. Italy and Great Britain are united in defending the democratic values that we share," the British monarch stressed.
Charles wanted to speak in Italian and, addressing deputies and senators, emphasized that he "hopes not to destroy the language of Dante."
At the same time, he added that Italy was and will always be in his heart, which was also true for his mother "Elisabeth", who, as he recalls, had visited Sicily immediately after the murder of judge Giovanni Falcone.

Charles thanked Italian President Sergio Mattarella for the invitation to visit the country and did not fail to mention that this trip coincides with the twentieth anniversary of his marriage to Queen Camilla.
In the morning, the British monarch was received by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the Doria Pamphilj residence in Rome, while in the evening he is scheduled to attend a lunch hosted in his and his wife's honor by President Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace.
