The Italian authorities have launched investigations into manslaughter, after the sinking of the luxury yacht off the coast of Sicily, where 7 people tragically lost their lives, including the British technology tycoon, Mike Lynch.
The Italian chief prosecutor explained in a press conference that the prosecution is currently investigating a "hypothesis of crime" for manslaughter, although no one is currently under investigation.
He stated that the investigations are still at an early stage and do not indicate anything at this point in the investigation.

"A serious tragedy. At the moment, we have started investigations against unknown persons for negligent sinking of the ship and negligent homicide.

We are also investigating why the crew saved themselves by boarding the lifeboat while others were inside the cabins on the yacht?! What we do know is that the event was really unexpected and there are unknowns. The victims were left behind, on the sailboat, because they were sleeping. We are trying to establish this by cross-examining the evidence and checking what comes out, this is a culminating point of the investigation," said prosecutor Cammarano.
Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, was also among those who died when the 56-metre-long vessel capsized during a fierce storm on Monday morning. Her body was found by divers and washed ashore the day before, on August 23 shortly before 1:00 p.m. He was the last person left inside the boat.
Another 15 people survived, including the wife of the British tycoon whose company owned the Bayesian yacht.
Captain James Cutfield and other survivors have been questioned by the Coast Guard on behalf of prosecutors. None of them have told how the yacht sank.
Marine experts are baffled and question how a boat like the Bayesian, built by high-end Italian yacht manufacturer Perini, could not weather the storm and sink so quickly.
At the moment, the prosecution has not done drug tests or alcohol tests on the crew.
"At that moment they were injured and shocked. In terms of behavior, not only the passengers, but also the crew members are being examined ," Cammarano said.
The prosecutor also thanked the team of diving forces that managed to find and retrieve the bodies.
Fire Brigade Commander Girolamo Bentivoglio said: "We did not find the bodies all on the side of the sailboat. Everyone was looking for their bodies in the last airy rooms. We did 4,670 minutes of diving in 77 hours of research."
Coast Guard Admiral Macauda recalls that "Immediately after the launch of the missile, the commander told us: we have 12 people in the sea. At that moment we did not know that there were passengers inside the boat. We started looking for 7 people alive". / Taken from Corriere della Sera
