The Washington prosecutor's office has released a video showing the moment Cole Allen shoots at US Secret Service agents during an attempt to approach and kill President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
The footage, recorded at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the event took place last Saturday, shows the 31-year-old perpetrator violating security measures and moving through the hotel corridors with a gun in his hand.
The video also includes footage recorded the day before the incident, where Allen is seen moving around the hotel premises.
At one point, he breaks through a security checkpoint and shoots a Secret Service agent to his right. The wounded agent returns fire, but then falls to the ground after being shot in the chest, saved by his bulletproof vest.
Other security forces immediately react by opening fire on the perpetrator, who continues to run towards the reception room, where President Trump, his wife, Vice President Vance and other officials were.
According to Fox, prosecutors had planned to present the video during a bail hearing Thursday morning in an attempt to prove Allen poses a danger to the community. However, the defense changed its approach and agreed to his detention.
Cole Allen faces three federal charges: attempted assassination of the president, transporting a firearm across state lines, and use of a weapon during a criminal act. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
