A large seizure worth over three million euros in Albania has dealt a heavy blow to an Albanian syndicate that imported drugs and then sold them throughout Italy.
According to the Italian media Il Giorno, the Economic-Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Brescia and the Central Investigation Service for Organized Crime (SCICO), together with the Albanian authorities, carried out the preventive seizure of five properties, five individual companies and company shares in Albania of a company that operates in the fuel sector, three vehicles and a fishing boat, all worth over 3 million euros.
The seizure order was issued on October 6, 2023 by the Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime in Tirana in response to the request of the Public Prosecution at the Tirana Serious Crimes Court, SPAK. This is the epilogue of the complex and detailed investigations carried out as part of a joint investigative group (SIC) signed between the Public Prosecutor's Office of Bergamo and SPAK, which had already led, on January 26, 2023, to the execution in the national territory and abroad, by Fiamme Gialle investigators, 43 personal security measures granted simultaneously by Italian and Albanian judicial authorities, as well as the seizure of over 120 kilograms of cocaine, 15 kilograms of pure heroin, 129 kilograms of marijuana and 92 kilograms of hashish, according to Italian media Il Giorno.
The activity is the result of the effective judicial cooperation established between the Prosecutor's Office of Orobik and SPAK of Tirana, under the auspices of EUROJUST and with the support of EUROPOL, the International Police Cooperation Service and the Office of Experts for Security in Albania, of the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police, the union project "Pre-Accession Assistance Instrument", for the countries of the Balkans and of the Central Directorate of Anti-Drug Services, which allowed simultaneous and joint investigations to be carried out in Italian and in the Albanian territory, within the framework of international missions where investigators operated from both countries.
Accurate and detailed judicial police investigations carried out by the GICO-GOA Section of the Economic-Financial Police Unit of Brescia and the Albanian police led to the discovery of a criminal association of Albanian origin, whose leaders, from Albania, through people of their confidants managed an international traffic of narcotics with a destination also in Northern Italy, such as cocaine imported from the Netherlands in specially manufactured double electronic floors in the wheeled vehicles used for transport.
90% pure heroin, which was then processed, for "subsequent distribution to customers", in two refineries of the organization (subject to seizure by investigators) located in the provinces of Cremona and Milan. Marijuana, the seeds of which were imported into Italy to be cultivated locally in two greenhouses (also seized) created within two farms located respectively in the provinces of Mantua and Modena.
