Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the European Union to accelerate Ukraine's membership process, stressing that the bloc must prove that it keeps its promises to Kiev.
During his speech, Zelenskyy congratulated Ireland on assuming the next presidency and expressed confidence that under its leadership, the European Union will play a greater role in strengthening stability and security on the continent.
"When we face multiple challenges, both in the international arena and at national level across Europe, the EU has the opportunity and responsibility to be a force that brings more stability, productivity and respect for human life ," he declared.
The Ukrainian president also called for progress on the drone deal proposed by Ukraine and support for any measures that would make it more difficult for Russia to continue the war.
Zelenskyy also called for increased economic pressure on Moscow, suggesting additional restrictions on European companies that continue to conduct trade with Russia.
Another request of the Ukrainian president was the opening of more negotiation groups for Ukraine's membership in the European Union.
"Steps such as the opening of new negotiating groups strengthen the motivation of our people, raise the morale of Ukrainians and show that the European Union keeps its promises. It is very important that promises are kept ," Zelenskyy said. The Ukrainian president's speech was met with applause from those present.
