Thousands of military troops and tanks, Israel 'armors' the Gaza Strip

Israel has deployed thousands of troops to the Gaza Strip as it continues its intensified ground occupation, according to The Times of Israel newspaper.

The army has also deployed all of its armored brigades with tanks and other military vehicles to Gaza, the publication reported, citing the Israeli military.

This includes the Golani, Paratroopers, Givati, Commando, Kfir, Nahal, Israel's 7th, 188th and 401st brigades, as well as reserve units, The Times of Israel added.

Recall that 3,747 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel intensified its offensive on March 18 in an attempt to pressure Hamas to disarm and release the remaining 58 Israeli hostages.

Hamas said it would return the remaining hostages only in exchange for more Palestinian prisoners, a lasting ceasefire and an Israeli withdrawal from the territory.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected these conditions and has pledged to maintain control over Gaza and facilitate what he calls the voluntary emigration of most of the Palestinian population.

Israel's crackdown on Hamas has included a blockade of Gaza and its more than 2 million residents since early March, raising widespread concerns about the critical risk of starvation. This week, first aid trucks entered the territory.

Since the relief blockade was eased on Monday, Israel has said 388 aid trucks have entered Gaza. However, Palestinian aid groups dispute this, saying only 119 trucks have passed through the Karem Shalom crossing.

Gaza's Health Ministry reported that the total death toll, which does not distinguish between fighters and civilians, is now 53,901 since October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people.
