White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said President Donald Trump is “quite interested” in calling on Arab countries to pay for the costs of a war against Iran. During a White House press conference, Leavitt was asked if Arab countries would help financially with a US military operation against Iran.
She responded that this is an idea that President Trump has and that more is expected to be heard from him in the future.
" It's something the president would be very interested in calling them to do. I don't want to get ahead of him, but it's an idea that I know he has and something that I think you'll hear more from him about ," Leavitt said.
The statement comes in the context of the military operation "Operation Epic Fury" against Iran, which has entered its fourth week. The White House has emphasized that talks with Tehran continue and that there is progress, but at the same time has warned of stronger strikes if an agreement is not reached.
This approach is reminiscent of the Gulf War model in the 1990s, when several Arab countries contributed financially to the costs of the US-led operation.
President Trump has not yet made a detailed official statement on the matter, but Leavitt suggested that there may be further developments soon from his side.
