The war minister threatens Netanyahu: You have three weeks to change the
Benny Gantz and Benjamin Netanyahu

Three weeks to change the strategy of the war in Gaza, otherwise the war will be complicated by a political crisis. This is the ultimatum that Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz gave to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Gantz has threatened to resign along with Minister Gadi Eisenkhot if Prime Minister Netanyahu does not establish a post-war plan for the Gaza Strip.

Gantz set a June 8 deadline for a plan to achieve six "strategic goals," the return of hostages; eliminating Hamas and demilitarizing the Strip; the creation of a joint administration of Americans, Arabs, Europeans and Palestinians for a new government in Gaza; the return of residents to northern Israel; normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia; introducing a plan for all Israelis to serve in the Armed Forces, thereby eliminating the exemption for the ultra-Orthodox.

If all this does not happen by June 8, Gantz and Eisenkhot will leave the government. The first response of the Israeli prime minister was very harsh: "These conditions are a euphemism to describe Israel's defeat."

Netanyahu said meeting Gantz's demands would lead to "the end of the war and a defeat for Israel, the abandonment of most of the hostages, leaving Hamas intact and the creation of a Palestinian state."

Gantz's statement marks an escalation of tension that has been simmering for months and erupted a few days ago when Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said "no" to Israeli military control of the Strip. A position that Gantz had supported and Netanyahu rejected outright.

The growing rift comes as fighting has flared on both sides of the Gaza Strip, with Israeli forces operating in the southern town of Rafah and the northern town of Jabalia, one of Gaza's historic refugee camps and an area the Israeli military previously said that he had 'cleansed' it of Hamas fighters.
