One of the most well-known names in the Greek underworld, Vangelis Zampounis, 44, was executed in a mob assassination in the early hours of Sunday.
Known by the nickname "Zambon", the 44-year-old is suspected of being the head of a group of fines and hired killers.
He was detained by the authorities, but no evidence was ever found against him, while in 2018 he was assassinated in Piraeus.
The 44-year-old was executed with over 90 Kalashnikov bullets inside his armored car. From the footage, the 44-year-old was taken by surprise as soon as he entered the car outside a gas station.
Only within 30 seconds, a car approached him from which two armed men got out. One of them immediately approached the driver's window and emptied the first magazine of the Kalashnikov.
Then he pulled back, changed the magazine and continued firing in bursts. At one point to make sure the target was dead, he opens the car door and shoots him again.
He escaped an assassination attempt in Piraeus in 2018, only because the assassins' Kalashnikov jammed. In this assassination attempt, he escaped with only a leg wound.
After the assassination, the Greek mob boss significantly increased security levels, always moving around with an escort and wearing a bulletproof vest.
But in recent months he went out quite often alone in the armored BMW, removing the escort and the armored vest.
Greek media reports that the head mobster received assurances that he was no longer in danger. As the leader of the Greek mafia, he may have believed that the problems were closed, causing him to lower his vigilance, but that proved fatal.
