Moscow accuses EU of sabotaging Trump-Putin summit in Budapest

Moscow has accused the EU and NATO of trying to sabotage the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin that is expected to be held in Budapest, Hungary.

"The countries that make up the EU and NATO are working to obstruct everything. There is no issue they are not interested in, except how to harm Russia, undermine our positions and make it more difficult for us to solve the problems we face."

"This is the sole objective of the entire EU policy. They are the most destructive force on the international stage. Therefore, it is not surprising that they engage in all kinds of sabotage. We are ready for this and know how to counter it," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said when asked by TASS about the risk of canceling the Trump-Putin meeting.

Poland on Tuesday warned Russian President Vladimir Putin not to travel through its airspace to attend a summit in Budapest, Hungary, with US President Donald Trump, saying he would be forced to execute an international arrest warrant if he did so.

Trump said last week, after a long phone call with his Russian counterpart, that he planned to meet with Putin in Budapest as part of his efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

The International Criminal Court, based in The Hague, issued an arrest warrant for Putin in 2023, charging him with the war crime of illegally deporting hundreds of children from Ukraine. Russia does not recognize the ICC's jurisdiction and denies the charges.
