The Russian Foreign Ministry has reacted harshly to the European Union's decision to freeze Russia's sovereign assets, describing it as "banal and pure theft," while warning that retaliatory measures will not be delayed.
Russian diplomatic spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that "Brussels is shifting the cost of this decision onto its citizens," while announcing that the Central Bank of Russia has filed a lawsuit against the financial company Euroclear in a Moscow court, seeking compensation for losses caused by the blocking of funds.
According to her, the use of Russian assets without the Kremlin's consent constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, while the EU's policy towards Moscow was described as "without any rational logic", which will cause long-term damage to its European economy and reputation.
Zakharova added that the decision to seize assets aims to undermine peace efforts in Ukraine, claiming that the mediation initiative proposed by Donald Trump is also a victim of this policy.
