Turkey has been hit by severe storms and flooding, leading to the deaths of 9 people, including a sailor who died when a cargo ship sank in the Black Sea.
Eleven other crew members are still missing. The search and rescue operation was delayed for several hours by bad weather. But as the situation calmed down, rescuers found the body of a sailor.
At least three people died in the storms in the city of Eregli, while five people died in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir and Batman after being swept away by floods caused by heavy rains, Interior Minister Ali Erlikaya said. Among the victims was a grandmother and her three grandchildren. About 50 people were injured.
Another cargo ship, the Cameroon-flagged Pallada, broke in two due to strong storms.
All 13 crew members were rescued.
