More than 2,000 people, including 405 children, have been evacuated due to floods that hit the Primorye region in Russia's far east, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on its Telegram channel.

"More than 2,000 people, including 405 children, were evacuated to the coast. A total of 28 inhabited places were isolated due to water. 13 temporary shelters were opened in which 550 people were accommodated, including over 160 children. The teams of electricians will begin to restore the power after the water is withdrawn from the substations", said the statement of the Russian Ministry, reports TASS.

A total of 4,368 houses, 5,654 yards and 43 sections of highways in 16 municipalities are still flooded, and more than 650 people and 205 vehicles are participating in rescue activities.

According to data from the Coastal Hydrometeorological Service, the water will continue to rise at least until August 17.
