Italy continues to be plagued by bad weather. Meteorologists have predicted a red alert for Lombardy and orange in six other regions for today.
Yesterday evening a strong storm hit Liguria. In Genoa, 80 millimeters of water fell in sixty minutes while there was flooding all over the city: from Principe station to central areas as well as closed underpasses
Due to the lightning, the railway systems in Novi Ligure also had problems, interruptions of the Turin-Genoa line and some trains were forced to stop.
The orange alert is in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Province of Bolzano, Tuscany and Veneto. The warning is yellow in western Abruzzo, Campania, part of Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Veneto and Piedmont, in Lazio, part of Molise, Province of Trento, but also in Sardinia, Umbria and Valle d'Aosta.
And while the North of Italy is engulfed in heavy rain, the South is burning: Trapani Airport was closed for four hours yesterday because of the fires. In Scopello, 400 tourists were evacuated again due to fires.
In France, the international railway was interrupted by a landslide in Saint-Andrè en Savoie, not far from the Frejus tunnel, in the Maurienne valley.
Stones and debris detached from a mountain ridge also caused the partial interruption of the highway in the south. Milan-Modane-Paris high-speed trains have also been cancelled.
