Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Kiev will need European financial support to continue the fight against Russian troops for at least another two or three years.
"I have told all European leaders that we will not fight for decades, but you must show that for a certain period you will be able to provide stable financial support to Ukraine ," Zelensky said.
He specified that 2 to 3 years is the period during which the European Commission is expected to gradually unfreeze frozen Russian assets to finance the war-torn country. Zelensky acknowledged that Russian forces have already entered the eastern city of Pokrovsk, which Moscow has been trying to take for more than a year.
"About 200 Russians are stationed there, at different points. We see this through drones, and Pokrovskoye is currently the main target of the Russians ," Zelensky told reporters.
He further called on US President Donald Trump to pressure Chinese leader Xi Jinping to reduce his support for Russia when he meets with him on Thursday in South Korea.
"I think this would be one of the strongest moves, especially if after sanctions against Russian companies, China is ready to reduce imports from Russia," Zelensky added.
