NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said today that he is "absolutely convinced" that the alliance will be able to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to Fox News, Rutte addressed the harsh criticism that US President Donald Trump has leveled at the alliance.
Rutte argued that the secret nature of the military operation required NATO countries to take time to calibrate their response.
" European allies and partners around the world have used the last two weeks to make sure we come together. They start planning what we can do together as allies, as partners of the United States ," the NATO chief said.
He also called the US operation "crucial" because of the "existential threat" from Iran.
