Iranian state media reports that Iran's negotiating delegation has arrived in Islamabad, ahead of planned talks with the United States this weekend.
According to Iranian state television, the delegation is headed by Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament. It also includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Secretary of the Defense Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, and several Iranian MPs.
Flight tracking platform Flightradar24 confirmed that two Iranian government-linked planes, with flight numbers IRAN04 and IRAN05, have landed at an airport near the Pakistani capital. Earlier, the same sources reported that the planes took off from Iran and flew over Afghanistan before entering Pakistani airspace.
At the same time, US Vice President JD Vance is en route to Pakistan to lead the US delegation to these talks. Air Force Two made a scheduled stop in Paris for refueling.
According to the White House press team, the flight to Europe was uneventful and no special developments were recorded during the trip. Vance left the United States about eight hours ago and said he looks forward to the negotiations.
Talks between the two countries are expected to focus on security issues and Iran's nuclear program, at a sensitive moment for bilateral relations.
