Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reacted sharply to the decision by Britain, Canada and Australia to recognize a Palestinian state. He described the move as a “huge reward for terrorism.” His statements are his first official stance on the three-nation initiative.
"I have another message for you: There will be no. There will be no Palestinian state west of the Jordan River," Netanyahu said in a statement. According to him, the government's official response will be announced after his return from the United States, where he is expected to meet with US President Donald Trump.
At the same time, he made it clear that his country's policy of expanding Jewish settlements in the West Bank will continue without any change.
"A Palestinian state will not be created. The response to the latest attempt to impose a terrorist state in the heart of our land will be given after my return from the US," he said.
"I have a clear message for the leaders who recognize the Palestinian state after the horrific massacre of October 7: you are giving a huge reward to terrorism. And I have another message for you: this will not happen."
"For years, I have prevented the creation of this terror state, despite great pressure from within and without. We did this with determination and political wisdom. In addition, we have doubled the number of Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria and we will continue on this path," Netanyahu said.
