Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, has stated that Israel does not agree to a unilateral ceasefire in Lebanon or to a solution that would allow Hezbollah to rearm.
"In a telephone conversation, Netanyahu told French President Emmanuel Macron that he opposes a unilateral ceasefire, which would not change the security situation in Lebanon and would return the country to its previous state ," the Israeli Prime Minister's office announced. .
According to them, Israel "is operating against Hezbollah to prevent it from threatening Israeli citizens on the northern border and to enable them to return to their safe homes."
Netanyahu said Israel would not agree to any agreement that does not ensure this and that does not stop Hezbollah from rearming and regrouping. Further, it said Netanyahu was "surprised by President Macron's intention to host a conference in Paris on the Lebanon issue, with participants such as South Africa and Algeria, who are working to deny Israel its fundamental right to self-defense." and actually deny that right to exist."
On October 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France announced that the international conference, called by President Macron, will take place on October 24 in Paris. The conference will bring together Lebanon's partner countries, the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU), as well as international and regional organizations, along with civil society, to "mobilize the international community to meet Lebanon's urgent protection needs." and help".
Yesterday, French newspaper "Le Parisien" reported that Macron told a cabinet meeting that "Netanyahu must not forget that Israel was founded by a UN decision (in 1948) and thus he cannot ignore UN resolutions ".
President Macron's comments came amid tensions in southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces have targeted UN peacekeeping forces, namely the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
On October 6, Macron called for a halt to the distribution of weapons used by Israel to the Gaza Strip, claiming that France "is not involved" in supplying these weapons. Later, Netanyahu in a televised speech criticized the French president's statement, stressing that, "Israel will prevail with you or without you."
Hours after President Macron's comments on halting arms supplies to Israel, the French presidency issued a contradictory statement, confirming that France will continue to provide Israel with the necessary equipment for "self-defense".
