Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered his military to launch immediate and powerful attacks on the Gaza Strip, following allegations that Hamas violated the ceasefire by handing over remains belonging to a previously recovered Israeli hostage.
An official statement from the prime minister's office said: "Following security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu has instructed the military command to immediately carry out a powerful strike on the Gaza Strip."
The decision comes at a time of high tension, with the internationally brokered ceasefire seen as a rare step towards temporary calm after months of bombing and mass casualties in Gaza.
