Moscow "shows its muscles" with missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads...

Russia continues to provoke the West. After the hypersonic missile attack in Ukraine, now Putin has started testing in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Russian frigates launched Zircon hypersonic missiles (Tsirkon), while a submarine launched a Kalibr cruise missile, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a Telegram post.

Both weapons are capable of carrying nuclear warheads, according to experts.

The Zircon missiles can reach speeds of nearly 7,000 miles per hour, according to Russian officials, and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has previously claimed that the latest weapons "have no equivalent in the world."

The number of Russian troops stationed in the eastern Mediterranean had also been "increased" to take part in the exercise, the statement said.

"The exercise involves over 1,000 servicemen, ten ships and support vessels, 24 aircraft, including Russian Air Force MiG-31I aircraft with Kinzhal [Dagger] hypersonic missiles and the Bastion coastal missile system," the ministry said.

She added that the exercise was "being conducted in accordance with current international law, as well as agreements between the Russian Federation and foreign states on the prevention of incidents at sea outside territorial waters, as well as in the airspace above them."

It also released images purporting to show the launch of a number of missiles from ships and land.

The images also showed a large explosion after hitting a target in open water, The Moscow Times reports.

The Defense Ministry said Tuesday's drill was conducted to "test the combined activities of Russian Navy and Air Force troop groups" and saw "sea-based precision missiles launched into the eastern Mediterranean Sea." / Pamphlet
