A serious incident has been discovered in the Zografou area of Athens, where a 91-year-old mother and her 56-year-old daughter were found lifeless inside an apartment.
According to Greek media, the bodies of the two women were in an advanced stage of decomposition and were discovered in a locked room, the door of which was insulated with construction material, putty.
The case came to light after relatives of the family contacted police on March 26, reporting the two women's disappearance for several months. They also expressed concern that the family's son might have been involved in their harm.
Initially, on March 28, the police went to the apartment indicated by relatives, but were unable to enter, as no one opened the door.
On Sunday, March 29, the family's 54-year-old son answered the door, but at first refused to let the police in. He then told officers that his mother and sister lived at a different address.
After verification, the police determined that the information was false and returned to the original apartment.
During the inspection of the apartment, all the rooms were found to be normal, with the exception of a closed room, the door of which was "sealed".
With authorization from the prosecution, officers entered the locked room, where they found the dead bodies of two women.
The 54-year-old man has been arrested and is being questioned by authorities, while investigations continue to uncover the full circumstances of the incident.
