Russian state media is reporting that the Russian security services (FSB) have reported that the suspected perpetrators of the concert hall attack were arrested while trying to flee to Ukraine.
"After the terrorist attack, the criminals intended to cross the border of the Russian Federation and Ukraine and had relevant contacts on the Ukrainian side," TASS quoted the FSB as saying. Earlier it was reported that Russia could use the attack to blame Ukraine and it seems that the scenario has started.
Ukraine has firmly denied any involvement.
Meanwhile, at least 93 victims have been confirmed so far. The Investigative Committee itself has reacted, warning that the number will rise. "The number of dead will increase further," said a statement.
"According to preliminary data, the causes of death were gunshot wounds and poisoning from combustion products", it is further stated.
The committee also said the gunmen used "flammable liquid" to set fire to the concert hall while people were still inside.
Ballistic, genetic and fingerprint examinations are currently being conducted. In a separate statement, the Russian health department said at least four children were in hospital.
In addition, state media quoted regional health officials last night as saying three children were among the dead. As we reported earlier, at least 107 people are still in hospital.
