Norway has decided to close its borders to Russian tourists, preventing them from entering the country from May 29.
"The Norwegian government is imposing further restrictions on entry into Norway for Russian citizens arriving in the country for tourism purposes. The new rules will come into effect on May 29, " said a statement published on the Norwegian government's website.
While it is further specified that there will be exceptions for individuals who come to meet relatives or to study.
"The rules apply both to Russian citizens who were issued a visa by Norway before the tightening of the rules in the spring of 2022 and to those whose visas were issued by other Schengen countries. In some cases, exceptions will be made, for example, for Russian citizens who come to visit relatives living in Norway and for citizens who arrive in the country to work or study in Norway or other Schengen countries," the note specifies.
On the other hand, Moscow has also reacted, describing Norway's decision as a hostile and discriminatory act.
In a press conference, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that Moscow will respond with retaliatory measures.
"Oslo's new hostile step towards Russian citizens is of an openly discriminatory nature ," Zakharova said, adding that Oslo's decision is aimed at the final destruction of any ties between the peoples of Russia and Norway.
