After meeting with his Chinese counterpart, President Vučić told Serbian state TV that he would buy Chinese weapons for his country's security, including modern aircraft and helicopters.
Serbia, according to him, does not intend to attack anyone, but is strengthening its army at a time when other countries in the region are also doing so.
He referred to the military cooperation signed by Croatia, Albania and Kosovo in March.
"The Serbian army is strong enough to deter any possible aggression from its neighbors. It was no coincidence that Pristina, Zagreb, and Tirana formed a military alliance. And they did not do it because of Austria, Hungary, or Slovenia, but because of Serbia. Why are you forcing us to pretend that we are more stupid than we are? We are not stupid enough to not understand why you did this."
Vučić warned from Beijing that Serbia will also hold a military parade on September 20.
