A tanker ship that was located about 10 nautical miles east of Fujairah, in the United Arab Emirates, was hit by a missile, according to a statement released by the United Kingdom Maritime Merchant Operations (UKMTO).
According to the announcement, the ship suffered minor damage to the chimney, but no serious consequences or environmental pollution were reported. Authorities confirmed that the crew is safe and all sailors have been identified.
Following the incident, authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident. In the meantime, vessels sailing in the area have been asked to exercise increased caution and report any suspicious activity.
Sailors have also been advised to maintain constant visual and radar surveillance, in accordance with security guidelines for protecting ships from potential military threats, including missiles and drones.
The incident comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Gulf region, where maritime security is considered essential for the flow of trade and oil transportation.
