Meanwhile, Iran's Assembly of Experts elected Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei, as the next leader, Iran International reported.
Any new leader appointed by Iran's ruling clerics is "a clear target for elimination," Israel warned Wednesday, as senior Iranian officials gather to choose a successor to the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"Any leader appointed by the Iranian terrorist regime will be a clear target for elimination - the Prime Minister and I have instructed the IDF to prepare and act with all necessary means to carry out the mission as an integral part of the objectives of Operation 'Lion's Roar,'" said Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.
"It doesn't matter what it's called or where it's hidden," Katz said.
"We will continue to act with full force, together with our American partners, to dismantle the regime's capabilities and create the conditions for the Iranian people to overthrow it and replace it," he added, CNN reports.
An elected body of senior clerics has met virtually to elect a new Supreme Leader after Khamenei was killed in the initial US-Israeli strikes on Saturday.
Khamenei left no officially declared successor.
Both Israel and the US have claimed that their strikes would create the conditions for the Iranian people to establish a democratic government and restore peace to the region. At the same time, US President Trump has cited a similar outcome to Venezuela - where US forces captured the president but left most of the administration in place.
Meanwhile, Iran's Assembly of Experts elected Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei, as the next leader, Iran International reported.
His election comes as the 88-member clerical body is under the influence of powerful factions within the Iranian regime, particularly the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Mojtaba Khamenei, born in 1969 in Mashhad, has been a key figure within Iran's security and political structures for decades, with close ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Basij militia. He received his religious education in Qom and previously served as a member of the Revolutionary Guard, actively engaging in the country's security and domestic political affairs.
