The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced the launch of a new wave of attacks in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah positions. According to a statement published on Telegram, both ground and air forces are engaged in the operation.
In an earlier update today, the IDF said nine Hezbollah members were killed in Saturday night's strikes. These claims have not been independently confirmed.
The escalation of the situation comes in the context of a wider regional conflict. Lebanon was drawn into the conflict after Hezbollah rocket attacks on Israel, while the latter responded with air strikes and then the deployment of ground troops in the south of the country.
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has ordered the destruction of bridges over the Litani River, considering them strategic routes used by Hezbollah. He has also called for an intensification of operations, including the destruction of buildings in targeted areas.
According to the IDF, two bridges over the Litani River, connecting southern Lebanon to the rest of the country, were destroyed earlier this week.
