The organization "Doctors Without Borders" (MSF) has stated that it has been forced to suspend its vital medical activities in Gaza City due to the relentless Israeli offensive.
The organization blamed the rapid deterioration of the security situation, including continued airstrikes and the advancement of tanks less than a kilometer from our healthcare facilities.
"The increasing attacks by Israeli forces have created an unacceptable level of risk to our staff, forcing us to suspend life-saving medical activities ," it said in a statement.
Jacob Granger, MSF's Emergency Coordinator in Gaza, said they had no other choice.
" We have no choice but to halt our activities, as our clinics are surrounded by Israeli forces. This is the last thing we wanted, as the needs in Gaza City are extraordinary, with the most vulnerable people - babies in neonatal care, those with serious injuries and life-threatening illnesses - unable to move and at great risk ," he said.
While large numbers of people have fled south due to evacuation orders, there are still hundreds of thousands in Gaza City who are unable to leave and have no choice but to stay. Those who are able to leave face an impossible choice: either stay in Gaza City under intense military operations and deteriorating law and order, or abandon what is left of their homes, their belongings and their memories, to relocate to areas where humanitarian conditions are rapidly collapsing.
As we mentioned earlier, more than 300,000 people have fled Gaza City in recent weeks, after Israel ordered the population to relocate south, but UN agencies and aid groups say around 700,000 people remain.
