At least two people were killed and three others were seriously injured in Alto Adige after an avalanche hit a group of ten ski mountaineers in Val Ridanna.
The alarm was raised on Saturday morning at 11:40 a.m. The accident occurred at an altitude of 2,300 meters, and authorities launched a large-scale rescue operation involving five helicopters.
According to initial information, all ten members of the group were equipped with ARTVA, the localization device used to find people trapped under the snow.
The Innsbruck operations center was also put on standby to support the operation. Authorities also requested beds in intensive care units at hospitals in Merano, Bolzano and Bressanone.
The Guardia di Finanza and all the district's Alpine Rescue teams intervened at the scene, with around 80 operators in total.
