Trump's threats, Cuba prepares for war with the US
Miguel Diaz-Canel

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has declared that his country is facing a high risk of aggression from the United States and, for this reason, has launched a plan to increase the population's defense preparedness.

During a meeting with foreign activists who were sending humanitarian aid to the island, Diaz-Canel described the situation as "very serious," linking it to increased pressure from Washington and the energy blockade that, according to him, has further deepened the internal crisis.

"We recognize that there could be an aggression against Cuba and we have launched a preparatory plan to increase the readiness of our people for defense, in the interest of the struggle of the entire people," the Cuban president said, emphasizing that the concept of defending the country, according to Havana, is "non-aggressive."

His statements come at a time of high tensions between the two countries. According to international media reports, Trump recently declared that he could "take" Cuba and that maximum pressure has already been exerted on the island, while the US administration has increased measures against the Cuban energy sector.

Diaz-Canel also said that the Cuban leadership remains united and that decision-making continues to be done collectively, with Raul Castro, according to him, continuing to have a role in the political direction of the country.

On the other hand, Cuban officials have reiterated that the country's political system and presidency are not subject to negotiations with the US. This comes after reports that Washington has demanded the removal of Diaz-Canel from power as part of possible discussions between the parties. Meanwhile, despite the harsh rhetoric, international media reports that bilateral contacts between Cuba and the US have continued.

Cuba's energy crisis has worsened significantly in recent weeks. Recent reports indicate severe fuel shortages, widespread power outages, and the arrival of humanitarian aid from international groups in an effort to alleviate the social and economic consequences of the situation.

In this climate, the Cuban head of state's statements are seen as a clear signal that Havana is preparing for a further escalation of the political clash with Washington, while simultaneously trying to cope with the internal crisis.
