One detail took my breath away on Thursday as I took the train to the Ambrosetti Teha Forum in Cernobbio, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán were expected. The detail is found in a simply extraordinary investigation published by the Russian investigative site "Dossier Center".
The feature article focuses on the lives of Vladimir Putin, his partner Alina Kabaeva and their children Ivan Vladimirovich and Vladimir Vladimirovich (Junior), aged nine and five. The children never leave their father's grand-gated mansions in St. Petersburg or Valdai; never attended school; they don't have friends their own age. And so far everything is predictable. But I had no idea that the Putin family would have to turn to an advertising agency to find English teachers for the dictator's children.
From those ads we understand something of his relationship with the West, that is, with Zelensky, and we can measure the difference with the man who has effectively become Putin's fifth column within the European Union: Orban himself. The psychological structures of the three are very different and will end up weighing on the developments of the war as well as its financial aspects. we see
The conditions for the teacher are:
- To work five days a week, 60 hours
- Teaching is English and other subjects
- Salary 7700 euros per month
- Candidate must accept two weeks of "medical tests" before starting (basically, a quarantine)
- There is a gym and a tennis court in the residence, but the tutor "is not authorized to leave the employer's territory"
- The family "prefers a candidate with a South African passport".
The initial quarantine does not surprise me, because we know the paranoia of the dictator, extremely terrified of viruses; nor am I surprised by the total isolation, high pay or preference for a person with a South African passport, because South Africa is the only English-speaking country that maintains an approach other than condemnation of Russia. / Corriere della Sera
