Pope Francis sends message to believers from hospital: Pray for me!

Pope Francis has called on Catholic believers to pray for him as he remains hospitalized with double pneumonia.

The head of the Holy See was unable to lead the traditional Sunday prayers for the second week in a row. In a message written in recent days, he said he is continuing treatment at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

This message comes after the Vatican announced yesterday that the Pope's condition remains critical after suffering an asthma attack.

In today's message, the Pope thanked the hospital's doctors and nurses for their care, as well as those who wished him well.

"In recent days I have received many kind messages and I have been especially moved by the children's drawings. Thank you for the closeness and for the prayers I have received from all over the world and I ask you to pray for me," he wrote.

Pope Francis has been hospitalized since February 14 after experiencing breathing difficulties. He is at increased risk of lung infection due to a childhood infection that resulted in the removal of part of his lung at the age of 21.

The pope has asked the public to be informed about his health, and the Vatican has made frequent statements about his condition. He used the message to mention the third anniversary of Russia's war in Ukraine - which falls on Monday - and called on everyone to remember the victims of armed conflict and pray for "peace in Palestine, Israel, the Middle East, Myanmar, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan."
