For months, predictions have been made for a very large earthquake in Turkey, especially in areas such as Istanbul and the Sea of Marmara.
Today, another earthquake shook Antalya, shaking that caused the reaction of experts.
Seismologist Dr. Süleyman Pampal assessed the 4.5 Richter earthquake that occurred in Antalya and said, among other things, that "there are larger earthquakes in this area and traces of tsunamis at the junction of the Aegean and the Mediterranean."
The earthquake occurred around 4:51 p.m., with a focal depth of 7 kilometers.
With the earthquake, citizens experienced a short-term panic and focused on the experts' explanations. Seismography Prof. Dr. Süleyman Pampal assessed the developments.
Speaking to CNN Turk, Professor Pampal said that "there have been 8 earthquakes of magnitude 8.5 since the 3rd century AD. It is the collision point of the plates."
He then warned noting that "earthquakes are normal. There are larger earthquakes in this area and tsunami tracks where the Aegean and Mediterranean meet. Stronger earthquakes are expected along the Crete-Rhodes line."
Earthquake expert, professor Dr. Naci Görür said weeks ago that faults in the Antalya region could cause earthquakes of magnitude 7 and above.
"All of these systems can cause earthquakes of magnitude 7 or greater.
