For the second night in a row, Russia launched a series of drone strikes over Kiev. The head of the city's military administration, Serhiy Popko, announced that Ukraine's air defense systems had shot down about 10 drones in the capital and its surroundings.
A day earlier, Iranian-made Shahed drones targeted infrastructure and caused power outages in more than 400 towns and villages in the south, east and north of the country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the air force for shooting down the highest number of drones Russia had fired at Ukraine in more than a week, with 29 of 38 being shot down by Kiev forces.
"Your accuracy, guys, practically means life for Ukraine. "The closer we get to winter, the more the Russians will try to strengthen their attacks," Zelensky said.
He said Russia is stockpiling missiles for a winter offensive against Ukraine's energy infrastructure. An oil tanker in Odesa was also hit during the weekend attacks, leaving over 1,500 people without power.
Ukraine has announced that nearly 21,000 people in the Donetsk region are without electricity, as well as 63 settlements in Zaporizhia. Last winter, Russian attacks left millions of Ukrainians without power, in freezing temperatures.
So, the authorities in Russia said that a Ukrainian drone heading towards Moscow had crashed on Saturday.
