Paranoia of the dictator; Why is Putin afraid of execution?!

Several successive reports have written that Vladimir Putin is afraid of being killed, and it is difficult to say how much is real and how much may be based on facts.

"I think that after being in power for as many years as Putin has, he has been "occupied" by paranoia," said Dr. Alan Mendoza, founder and executive director of the Henry Jackson Society, writes Sky News.

"You don't know where he is at a given moment, while Putin is meeting people with extreme distances between them. It seems clear that he thinks the people are ready to 'get' Putin. Some people probably want to do that. After 25 years in charge, you have a lot of enemies along the way, but I think it's more his imagination," continues Jackson.

While Professor David Lewis, an expert in global politics at the University of Exeter, thinks it could go even further.

“Putin has always had a strong sense of insecurity, perhaps stemming from his history in the KGB and his experience of the collapse of the USSR. Putin believes it is his mission to break the West's dominance of international politics and make Russia powerful again, so it is not surprising that he believes that Western security services, Ukrainian intelligence and Russian rivals are all conspiring against him" , he said.

Mark Galeotti, principal director of Mayak Intelligence and a senior associate in Russia, says that these thoughts of Putin may come as an inevitable result of being the absolute ruler of a rather cannibalistic system.

"Putin encourages his various subordinates to compete against each other. And I think it works because he assumes that's the right order.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin is determined to equip the Russian National Guard with heavy weaponry as he seeks to bolster his regime's security, the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD) has said.

The Russian president signed a law allowing the Rosgvarda to receive more equipment, which could include artillery and attack helicopters, late last week.

"The move suggests that the Kremlin is doubling Rosgvardia's resources as one of the main organizations to ensure the regime's security," the Defense Ministry said./ Adapted "Pamphlet" from "Sky News"
