The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they have "striken and eliminated" Hassan Mohammad Bashir, a senior Hezbollah commander in the Hajir area of southern Lebanon.
According to the IDF statement, Bashir was responsible for commanding and directing hundreds of anti-tank missile attacks against Israeli troops and civilians over the past two years. In recent months, he had begun working with Hezbollah's anti-tank forces north of the Litani River, training many operatives.
The attack comes as Israeli troops have expanded military operations in southern Lebanon since March 2, following rocket attacks by Hezbollah on Israel. These Hezbollah attacks came in response to joint US-Israeli operations against Iran.
Elsewhere in the region, the Israeli Air Force also struck targets in western Iran's Kermanshah province and the Dezful area further south. The Israeli military said it targeted "weapons storage and launch sites intended for ballistic missiles and air defense systems."
The goal, according to the IDF, is to reduce Iran's ability to direct fire against Israeli civilians. The regional conflict has escalated significantly since early March 2026, following joint US-Israeli attacks on Iranian military infrastructure, including missile bases and weapons depots.
