In Italy, as in all other Western European countries, the Muslim population living in Italy with the right to vote is growing and this, as has already happened in the United Kingdom, is creating the basis for homogeneous groups of people to raise their political grievances. This was seen in Monfalcone, where the first attempt at a Muslim list in municipal elections took place.
Despite a disappointing result, she still managed to carry out the vote count, receiving 3% of the vote with "Plural Italy".
The attempt by MP Aboubakar Soumahoro was a failure, but is considered a first embryonic attempt, which is sparking other movements on the eve of the important elections of 2027, when Italians will be called to renew their parliament.
However, this year there will also be municipal elections in the main cities, including Rome, where, as predicted by il Tempo, the group "MuRo27" was recently presented, an acronym for "Muslims for Rome 2027", made up of Muslims "who live, study and work in the capital and who want to contribute to the political debate ahead of the 2027 local elections". This momentum, which is not unexpected, was further strengthened by the victory of Zohran Mamdani in New York, which, as the press release points out, "had the merit of highlighting, if there was still a need, the backwardness of our political class compared to the society in which we live, which is in fact multicultural". What is clearly stated in the manifesto of intent is the idea of placing the Quran, and therefore Islamic law, at the center of the political plan they want to bring to Italy, because "in the capital, the MuRo27 group aims to promote and stimulate ideas and political proposals of collective benefit in accordance with the religious affiliation of its members." /Il Giornale
