U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio plans to travel to Israel later this week or over the weekend. Rubio was a key U.S. negotiator during the initial Middle East talks earlier this month that led to a formal ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Axios, the American news website, reports that the secretary of state is planning to return to the region as tensions over the Gaza ceasefire rise. The Times of Israel says it has also spoken to a US official who says the same.
Senior members of the Trump administration were in Israel today. JD Vance, Donald Trump's vice president, joined special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner in the country as they continue discussions on a ceasefire in Gaza.
